I have just updated my nokia N8 to software version number 022.014 from the previous 014.002 - -

I am guessing this is the "Anna" update ?

If so i dont like it, and highly reccomend that nodoby bothers with it,..
and if anyone knows how i can roll my phone back the the previous OS which worked fine, it would be greatly appriciated...

The new and easier text input is driving me mad! - its ideal if you are a small child with tiny fingers, but if your an average bloke with usual sized fingers, its worse than a blackberry!

And the web browser!!! - i thought they would change it so it didn't freeze/close on pages over 5mb... or make it so it could support more java/flash and other mad scripts that seem to be slapped on webpages now-a-days...  but to change the entire program.. NOOOOO - its like an iphone web browser now!!

I think symbian are trying to copy other phones features....  we stick to nokia because it IS NOKIA!..

Anyone else got any moans ?
or know how to roll it back to 014.002?

All help welcome....

Rich

Hello!

I tried to update it through the phone menu, but for some reason did not succeed. Therefore cannot advise how and if it is possible to revert.

My friend, an EX nokia executive was hyping the new symbian (ANNA, i guess) in early spring, too bad it is a disappointment.

Rich, is it possible to still use the numeric pad old school text entry way, or is it now ONLY  the portrait ihpne style qwerty keypad option?

Thanks.

~There is no way back at minute~ Or even ever.

Is there a link or page anywhere with reasons why OS cant be rolled back.
I'm NOT questioning your knowledge, everyone says there is no way back..  But no one says why.

Seems a bit strange to not build this ability in, Why restrict your self in such a way?
Is it purely to save themselves some Kb's in server time, with people rolling back and forth? I can't see any other advantage...

Again, I'm not dis-believing you. Just want to learn why.

Thanks

hi there guys good news is there is a way to revert back to a previous firmware just use this guide http://www.n8fanclub.com/2011/08/how-to-successfully-downgrade-nokia-n8.html and explains all what to do, i have succesfuly downgraded my phone with no problems. i think symbian anna was way over hyped and wasnt really worth the wait, unlike the next firmware apdate symbian belle which i think is great to use. all you need to do on the guide is roll back to version 11.5 then download the firmware you want eg. 22.14 from navi firm and then flash it with phoenix, do not use ovi updater as it will install the current anna. all the things needed to dwngrade is included in the lnk i provide. let me know how it goes guys.

That's what I love about the internet when you claim something cannot be done based on everything to date that you have read. It always brings out someone willing to prove you wrong and help in the same process. Works everytime.

Without having read everything on the link you provided . It was downgrade from the leaked anna that caught my eye(hopefully there is no restriction to that particular version of Anna)

Not trying to be argumentative, but why would you want to downgrade? In every way Anna is better than pr1.2 . You can (permanently) change the portrait keyboard to the old style if thats what you want in 3 clicks. The browser might not be perfect, but it is *much* better than before. I have deleted opera now. Look and feel is up to the user, however, personally I like the new tweaks. The phone is faster - a friend at work has a pre-anna n8, and we had a play with things like starting apps, scrolling etc. The new camera app has a much better feel to it, and you can download the betalabs experimental camera app for even more functions.

I think the n8 would have been *much* more popular if Anna was the original firmware. I wouldn't ever consider going back to the previous version.

Some people are unfortunate enough to have a Vendor firmware.  Phone companies in the UK are prone to thinking every one will want to use there abysmal apps and services and force said junk into the install.  Latest update equals latest vodafone flam and slowness. Maybe people want to reset to an older slightly less slow version of firmware.

Or some apps that a person feels they can't live without break under the latest update.

Just two situations that might lead someone to want to roll-back a firmware.
I don't want to, have hacked the voda crap out.  I just can't understand actively blocking downgrades, what is gained from stopping it happening? and am wondering what actually stops it, hardware coding in phone, the currently installed firmware itself, the software that flashes not wanting to go back....   Pixies?  :-)
Instead of the quote i read under any question aimed at downgrading (=can't be done don't bother trying.)

Re- reading this it feels a bit shouty. I'm just the excitable type, no malice intended

Thanks

I am convinced that anna update will never reach the united states....so i got spb mobile shell and use meego maximo theme and rays anna theme with it and it works well for me....as for the portrait keyboard....i cant use those effectively anyway...
