Correct. You do not have to hack your phone to get PR2.0 (Anna)

You will have to wait until it is available though, and that may be some months after Nokia release it, depending on your carrier.

You pay your money you make your choice!

Unfortunately Symbian Anna does not come sooner than August, according to the article I read.
Source: http://www.nieuwemobiel.nl/063326/4840/Nokia-belooft-update-naar-Symbian-Anna-in-augustus.html
The Symbian phones that are sold from July will have the update already, but the ones who already have a Symbian phone have to wait till August.
This takes too long imo, why can't they just release simultaneously...

This takes too long imo, why can't they just release simultaneously...

The release date from Nokia is always fluid because they are ironing out the bugs, so if more are found and need to be fixed before the release, then they just keep sliding the date backwards.
They hint at release dates, and then say things like "expected around Q2" which means by the end of June, then the rumours come in from various sources because Nokia are running late again (Oh what a shock that is!  Roll Eyes ) and it changes from "expected around Q2" to "probably in July"....... Now we hear it's August....... Undecided

Sometimes all of the dates are literally just speculations from various sources rather direct from Nokia, but that's because Nokia rarely give a date out, just an estimation, because they have so many bugs to fix  Angry

And then if you have a branded phone from your carrier, you have to wait sometimes for months for the carrier to modify the code for their own purposes before Nokia can make it available on OVI.

So Nokia in due course will announce that "Anna has been released" and yet some people in some parts of the world will be waiting for months before they get it.

I had EXACTLY the same issue with a Vodafone firmware branded N97, where I always had to wait around 3 months after Nokia said the update was out before I got it.

I guess if you were so inclined you could hack your phone so that it was not carrier branded so that you get the update when Nokia release it if that's what you want, but as the phones are so expensive I personally don't want to take that chance myself.

Guess I'll just wait for the release date like everyone else  Roll Eyes

OH HERE WE GO..............
  • Get a "system error" message every time the phone starts
  • Can't get into my contacts at all even though there are 260 in memory (SPB Shell has access!!! WTF?)
  • Conversations won't run
  • Can't install the beta labs sleeping screen

All I want is a working phone FFS!  Angry
It was working better before the damn update!

Tried *#7370# for factory defaults, no change
Tried re-installing Anna, no change

Anyone else having issues too?
Any solutions you can think of?

This is an UNBRANDED N8 bought directly from Nokia in Finland
Software version 022.014
Custom version 022.014.226.06

Bear in mind that mine is an UNBRANDED N8 bought directly from Nokia in Finland
SO if yours has operator specific firmware, you could be waiting a while yet for Anna Undecided

It turns out there are several issues with QT and Anna.
Make sure you do a backup first......here's what I had to do -

  • Uninstall ANY Nokia beta labs stuff
  • eject memory card in the proper manner
  • uninstall all programs NOT by Nokia (SPB Shell, Opera etc)
  • Do a hard reset
  • Go over to http://discussions.mea.nokia.com/t5/Software-Updates/Anna-package-1-2-amp-2-2-error/td-p/1115901/highlight/false and follow all the instructions regarding QT updates
  • Then download the BETALABS software update program to my PC (OVI Suite didn't work for the updates for me!)
  • Run the update program - I got Anna, then Anna update #1 and Anna update #2
  • Reboot phone
  • Close Betalabs updater
  • Start OVI Suite
  • Download all the programs I wanted AGAIN from OVI.
  • Reinstall the backups

Angry  WHAT A FLAMING MUCK AROUND!  Angry

I hope the above list helps any of you that are experiencing similar issues.  Cool

Via your software update program on your phone as well on you pc in ovi suite.
You can also get your firmware info when you dial *#0000# and then you can update via options.

You can get the hacked version of Anna on internet somewhere but your warranty with nokia will be cancelled.
But, if Nokia send you text or you look it up in SW updater and it gives you an option to update, it's not hacking, you good to go there.

Hope that make sense...sorry for bad English

For exemple the net connection through 3g is very unstable, the phonebook is not loading every time and nust be very carefull not losing it. Totaly disappointed by symbian anna. Hope belle will be much pretty.

The US/Canada version is reportedly still about 2 weeks away.  Yeah, I'm waiting too.
