I find that whenever I install either of these 3 apps, my phone begins to automatically connect to WLAN, I do not want it to do this as it drains battery but the only way i can make it stop is by uninstalling these apps.

Is there any way to have these apps yet prevent it from auto-connecting?

I am not sure if i understand what you are trying to do. Do you want these apps to NOT access the internet at all or do you prefer for these apps to ACCESS the bandwidth provided by your WIRELESS COMPANY?

I have not had any of these apps connect to the internet simply by installing them. They will beginning to connect to internet when you "OPEN" or "RUN" one of these apps though.

that's the problem, if it only connected when i "OPEN" or "RUN" these apps then it wouldn't be a problem. But it connects all the time when these apps are OFF.

I dont kno what to say, other than WTF!?! ahahjhajahja weird...

Are you certain that NO other app is open that might be triggering the internet to connect?

Try PRESSING and HOLDING the MENU KEY, at the lower left of the phone, until the task manager pops up to verify nothing is open that may be triggering the internet. If there simply close them by PRESSING "X" as demonstrated in the following link:

That's a very basic function, it's honestly not that simple. I've tried pretty much everything as well as trying to change the WLAN settings but it doesn't seem to work.

And it's definitely not another app as it only happens when I install these apps.

jajaja... BASIC FUNCTION eh? If you havent noticed, a lot of people in this world LACK "basic function" LoL, i was simply canceling out any possibilities. Keep in mind there is always room for error and things should always be double checked when trying to find a solution to something Wink

What are you NETWORK SETTINGS in whatsapp? Connect Priority = Wi-Fi, Cellular???

I really think your problem is Whatsapp and NOT skype or opera browser.

I have always had skype and opera and have never ran into the issue you have been having.
And I went ahead and installed whatsapp back onto my phone to help you with your issue and I noticed that Whatsapp automatically OPENS on STARTUP whenever i restart my phone. And if you notice in the TASK MANAGER after your phone has fully booted up, Whatsapp not only opens ITSELF, it opens calender, contacts, and clock. You will notice that when your phone BEGINS to connect to WLAN its because you probably are going through your contacts or calender and this TRIGGERS Whatsapp to want to connect to WLAN.

This is one possibilty that maybe be causing your problem.

I've tried playing around with the settings in Whatsapp it doesn't work, also skype and Opera definitely do give me the same problem as I have installed them independantly and they still cause wi-fi to connect

OK I don't know why but I recently re-installed Opera browser and skype again and they are no longer giving me this problem (I don't know whether that's due to an update or whatever).
However Whatsapp is still giving me this problem, does anyone have the same issue?

So check this, I downloaded an app called 'force control widget' to see if it could help solve the problem. I leave the app running and switch WLAN scan to off from the app, and the Whatsapp STILL overrides the system and app settings and connects to the wi-fi!

Whatsapp does not have an offline mode, so it will be always online and trying to connect.
My solution? I've removed it....

I had the same problem.

I suspect it may be your email account. Go to your email settings then select the account itself from the next menu then account settings then synchronisation. The retrieval frequency will probably say Soonest. Change this (I use every 4 hours). You might also want to change the retrieval schedule as well. Completely cured it for me.

Good luck!!

No I'm pretty sure it's the whatsapp because I don't have an e-mail setup

I've replaced Whatsapp with Imsy. They have introduced the possibility to define an interval to get updates.

Here my first review

http://www.nokiatividade.com/imsy-um-concorrente-de-peso-para-o-whatsapp/

and the changelog for the latest version

http://www.nokiatividade.com/aplicatio-imsy-recebe-update-v0-93/

Just hit the translate button

Whatsapp always connects to the internet. There's no way to stop it. If you are interested in alternative apps, just contact me...
