Hi

On Facebook and web pages especially, I like to view text written in non-Roman characters (not Arabic, Chinese, but something else). I have the .TTF font and I want to know if there's a way to install fonts of other languages.

I don't mean adding new language support on the device's Language Settings. I want the device to show in English but only when viewing webpages and Facebook that I want to see other language text as they are written.

Any ideas?

You can try this method:

http://www.symbian-guru.com/welcome/2009/08/how-to-change-fonts-on-your-symbian-phone.html

It worked on my E71, but I have yet to try it on my N8.

Thanks for the reply, but that is not what I'm after. I guess I didn't make myself quite clear in the title.

I don't want to change the font on my phone, but when I'm browsing the web or using Facebook, I want to be able to view text displayed in languages (e.g. Chinese, Korean, Thia characters) other than those comes preinstalled on the device, but without having to change my phone language setting to Chinese, or Korean.

Since, I'm in Europe, I can change to various European languages but it won't allow me to view Asian text when I'm browsing the web.

This is not the case for iPhone or Andriod, where you can install language packs (for Arabic, Malay, Chinese, etc) whilst keeping your device to be in a particular language, e.g. English. This is what I want to be able to do on my Nokia.

Since my post, I've searched for this info and looks like it's not possible on Symbian.

From Nokia's customer service, I just know N8 SUPPORTS MULTI-LANGUAGE!!!.  However, it is kind of tricky to add a new language.  OK, please follow the following steps:

1. Go to Menu.
2. Tap  Applications.
3. Select Office.
4. Go to Dictionary.
5. Select Options.
6. Choose Languages.
7. Go to Download Languages.

Choose the language you like and proceed to download it.  Then, you can browse the website without any frustration.

@pdfan: I am thinking of buying Nokia N8, but one thing that's holding me up is the lack of multiple language support (like lenaye, I need it for viewing only not input). So does your solution only works for the default browser? How about other app (such as opera mobile, facebook related, etc)? I am interested primarily in chinese (traditional and simplified), japanese and korean. Do these languages listed in the 'Choose Language' selection?

Even though your solution do suggest that it SHOULD apply to all applications. However, I just want to make sure. Thanks.

Please don't try to change the fonts for your n8. It will result to your phone not being able to boot. It works on E71 but it won't work on the n8.
