Hi,

I plugged in an Iomega mini-harddrive ( i think 320GB) into the phone, but it says "Unit is not supported"
Do I need to install some kind of a driver on the phone, or will these kind of usb-memories not work anyway?
My sandisk cruzer 16gb usb-stick works fine together with the phone.

thanks/David

Hi David
How is your mini drive preformatted Huh

Mac HFS may not work
Windows FAT32 may not work
Try formatting with NFTS
See the manual of the drive for instructions or have a look at:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/tips/advanced/ntfs.mspx

And in case the hard drive requires more than 200 mA of power use external power source for the harddrive.

Hope this helps

Thanks gvrossem,

The drive is NTFS and works fine on my PC. But now I just read at some other forum that the phone only supports FAT32?? Can someone verify that? Before I re-format it  Tongue
I plug the power connector of the usb cable to my PC and the data connector to the phone, so the HDD should get enough power?

regards
David

hi David
found on a nokia weblog that the n8 indeed supports fat32 which means the n8 can deal with max 4 gb file size
So unclear what causes your problem. Are you sure your cable is ok??

Hi Gerard,

The problem is probably that the N8 does not support NTFS formatted disks. I'll just need to move the content somewhere and then re-format it to FAT32. The 4GB limit is ok at this point since I use the disk for storing photos only.

thanks/David

OK David - good luck
Please let me know the result
Pity Nokia does not give proper info on these things in their manual.

Hi,

Mini HDD will work, but depends on the disk need for power Wink
some take 500 700 800 mA ,others 1A of power.
i suppose the N8 doenst give many power to the USBotg.  so some disks will power but wont startup the mechanic stuff and gives you error on the driver recognition, just like in windows.
thats my guess.. and formats , only FAT or FAT32
hope ntfs for the future.. ^^
