I've come to have some problems with Bluetooth.  If I have it disabled, it often has a pop-up that tells me Bluetooth is disabled and if I want to activate it.  That's fine, although Bluetooth is seldom needed.  It's mostly just an annoyance that probably shouldn't be there.

The bigger problem comes from Bluetooth freezing up the N8.  I've had it ask at the main screen, the camera, pretty much anywhere it wants a connection (although it does have both LAN and T-Mobile's connections available).  One big issue this seems to be causing is freezing.  I don't know how the code is set up, so I can't really comment on details, but I'd say roughly 30% of the time, this pop-up will lock up the N8.  The only way to fix it is to force the N8 off and restart it.  Because this happens on nearly a daily basis, it's getting to be quite annoying.

I assume I can just turn Bluetooth on and not run into the issue, but at the same time I don't want to be using a device that I'm not using and just sit there draining the battery.

Figured I'd update.  I tried to use my phone two ways: Bluetooth on, and Bluetooth off.

Here's what I've found.  With Bluetooth disabled, the phone wants to bring up the pop-up menu asking if I want to activate Bluetooth.  It will do this whenever it wants to connect to networks, ex. when you unlock the phone or turn on the camera.  A portion of the time the menu will pop up on the main screen after I unlock the phone, but it freezes the phone.  No buttons work.  There is no wait time for this to work either.  It stays frozen forever.  I am forced to do a forced shutdown of the phone by holding the power button for 8 seconds.  There is no other way.  For the camera, part way through start up it will pop up the Bluetooth menu, I assume for adding location to the images if the feature is enabled.  However, it will end up locking up the camera because this screen actually doesn't show up.  Without it showing up, the camera is locked part way through its bootup and is non-functional.  I can hit the menu button, get out of the camera, and force it closed.  Any attempt to go back to the camera does the same thing though.  The only fix is to restart the phone.

With the Bluetooth enabled, the phone brings up a Search For Bluetooth menu asking what Bluetooth devices I want to search for.  This menu does not freeze the phone, good.  However, it will at times lock up the camera boot up just the same as the other Bluetooth menu.  The camera is stuck part way through the boot up process, and I have to turn off the phone to get it back.

The frequency of this happening is decently often.  Depending on how much I'm playing with my phone, it could be daily.  It does seem "normal" as in it only does it in relation to certain events, time duration, etc.  The act could be repeated like clockwork if I made the effort to figure out the specific inputs and durations needed to trigger the problem.

You've set your GPS to use bluetooth. This means it is expecting a bluetooth gps device to be used, so pops it up whenever GPS functionality is requested. To disable it, go to Menu->Settings ->Program settings->Positioning->Positioning Methods and tap "Bluetooth GPS"

I've translated the menu options from Danish, so they may not show exactly the same on your phone.

Yep, that was it.  Thanks!

It is weird that it would be prone to freezing though.  It doesn't do it every time.  It only freezes if the menu doesn't show up which happens often but not all the time.

GPS Bluetooth = Off

All is well.
