Hi, I've just bought new N8 and wanted to watch some movies via HDMI. I've got some original BD Discs, tried to convert them to 720p x264 mkv with dd5.1, but I'm getting only infiniteable "Loading" or just sound without music.
Tried splitting files <2GiB and problem stays.
Everywhere you're saying "u not need any other player, this stock is best and supports all blah blah". Ok, I've downloaded some warez movies (the same as I have on legal disks) and they don't work too o.O

I'm going to spent a week on skiing, in hotel I've got 32' LCD with HDMI in, I want to put some movies on my nokia and watch them there before sleep. I think I have to encode everything to a specific format - but with what app and which format is best for quality and acceptable by N8? Have I to split to 2GiB files either?

suggest that there is something wrong with Video once re-coded.

- will the re-coded video play on a computer?
- what is the codec of the re-coded Video [ get the program "Gspot" and get it to check ]
- make sure that the coded you have coded the video to is recognised by the phone
- best codec is of course H.264 in a file type like say a MP4 or AVI package [ though the file type is flexible the codec can be trouble - use H.264, but the phone should cope with some Xvid and DivX also].

Why were you re-coding the File?
And why coding to a specific resolution? - the phone will just scale.

Also I think the 2GB file-size is an absolute limit.

Addendum : a good source for video re-coding software is DOOM9.ORG

But some of that software is quite "manual" to use; and the site hasn't been updated in a while : but it can still give names of good software that is usually Free.
