Hey everyone, I've been to this forum a few times before. I've found very useful things here and there. This is my first time though to actually participate, so hello all  Grin.

I have a problem, yesterday I connected my n8 to the laptop through the USB cable as usual. Everything was fine until I decided, for the first time, to to change from ovi suite mode to mass storage. I did that while it was connected.
When I made the switch, the wallpaper of the home screens went back to the theme default. And 2 shortcuts of applications (that were installed on the E: drive) turned to question marks.

Anyway so I was like, okay this is crazy, so I switch back to ovi suite, I got the wallpaper and the shortcuts back to normal but..... Cry

The folders in my phone are now messed up.
All the folders in the E: drive have been turned to .lnk files.  Sad
Here's what's more annoying, the files are still in the phone, but I can't open them using the file manager or videos or photos or even the music player.
But they are there, when I clicked on the "Last watched" video in my videos on my phone, it played fully, no problems. (the screenshot is messed up because of the ScreenCap app, the video is fine on the phone).

When I take new photos, they do appear in the photo viewer, but I can't locate the actual files in the file manager.
I can still sync them through ovi suite though.

The music player also played all the music, until I "refreshed" the library now they're all gone, but the last one I played can still be played.

I've taken a few screenshots, you can find them here:
http://localhostr.com/file/hXPFfUF/n8%20prob.rar
(dw no viruses)

Now when I switch my phone to mass storage mode, I can open the folders on the pc, and everything inside them is still there, I can add delete or move around files and open them its fine. Back on the phone, I still can't find anything.
I tried a soft reset, no use. I also tried to 'Restore' my phone from a backup I had last week, still no use.

Idk what to do  Undecided , anyone faced this before? Anyone have any ideas of what to do?
You can imagine how useless the phone would be....

Thanks in advance to everyone, even if you just read this thread  Smiley
Hope I'm not a pain.
 Grin

UPDATE

ALRIGHT I SOLVED IT.

Here's the solution in case any one comes across this problem later.

First of all backup all your images / videos / sounds manually.
Meaning create folders on your pc for each, and then transfer the files from the phone to those folders when its connected. In my case I had to be in Mass Storage mode of course (read up).

Once you do that.
Change the USB mode to Ovi suite.
Then using the ovi suite application on the pc, create a backup of your data. I only backed up, applications and settings, contacts, messages, calendar entries and documents.

Once you've done that.
Disconnect your phone from your pc.
Go to the file manager, press and hold the Mass storage memory and choose "Format".
It will ask you if you're sure you want to do it, say yes.

It takes a very short time, maybe a minute. Now you have your original folders back.
Also, you shouldn't have lost your contacts and messages and calendar entries, but if you did it's fine, we made a backup.

Then connect it to the pc, open ovi suite, and "Restore" your phone from the backup file we made using ovi suite.
Once your done it will ask you to accept the restart request on your phone, accept it, it will restart and your back!

All you have to do now is move the videos and other files you copied to the pc back to the phone, or not, it's up to you.
Now the problem is completely solved!!!  Grin Grin

You'll also get most of your applications back.
Read:

for more about payed apps.

Hope I helped!!
