Ovi Store will be changing its name to Nokia Store, to keep in line with the new rebranding structure announced in May. As well as the name change, the client is easier to use and it has been built using Qt Quick. Available for the latest Symbian phones, find out what’s improved in the latest app, after the jump.

The most noticeable improvement is the speed of the app. It loads, runs and responds in a much quicker, smoother way than it did before. And finding content is much faster too, with the new and improved navigation bar at the bottom.

When it comes to buying apps, the purchasing process is much quicker, easier and more intuitive. No longer must you enter your password at the checkout, if you’re already signed into your Nokia account. If there’s ever an issue with purchasing items, there’s an advanced and highly intuitive error handling system in place for dealing with such problems, but hopefully you’ll never have to use this.

For app developers, it’s a clear demonstration that Nokia is committed to Qt Quick and they hope this latest revamp will further encourage its use. If you’re a developer and are unfamiliar with the art of Qt, you can learn all there is to know at the Qt Dev Days which begin on October 24 in Munich and October 29 in San Francisco. Well worth attending if you’re in the area and have the time.

You’ll notice this update should pop up on your phone any day now, but until this update is automatically pushed to your device, you can grab the beta version of Store QML client from Beta Labs. But remember, that version might be a bit buggy as might all beta apps.

hello,

i got it Sunday afternoon, while looking for an app within market. Is about 6.3 MB if i recall it well.
It does looks very nice with the Nokia service logo against the old Ovi Store.
Here is a photo of it.

Best regards,
Radu Negoita

I've been using the Beta version for a little while now and although it is a lot faster than the old Ovi store, the UI is generally quite horrible (in my humble opinion).
If this is a taste of things to come with the Belle update, then I'm not interested in updating my phone to Belle. I'm already regretting updating to Anna for various reasons.
