I imagine it would since it worked well on the N95 and the N85s we have in my family.  However, you get Nokia maps without charge on the N8 so, while I have several Garmin XT cards, I haven't bothered to install one on my N8 because I find Nokia Maps to be a very good substitute and it covers many different countries which is handy if you travel a lot.

Yes, Garmin mobile XT works with N8.  I've just installed it, but make sure you go to settings->application settings->positioning and select Assisted GPS.  It works perfectly, and the lock on time is very impressive, mine was around <20 seconds most of the time.

I don't see why you'd want to, though. Ovi Maps is pretty good, and there's a new version coming soon.

Are you sure the Garmin is better?  Nokia bought Garmin's map supplier last I heard so I would imagine the maps would be the same.  (Of course, that may not be true in Romania.)

Do you need a different version of garmin or can you just install the same version as the one I used on my n95?

Which version did you use. I tried the version from my satio and can't get it installed. Do I need to hack the phone>? Can you please point me to a guide where I can install for my n8 thanks. The ovi maps is great but found on a couple of occasions where my destination was just 1/2 straight ahead and Ovi was telling me to turn on a different road/route to get there. Basically telling me to take a longer route. And no there was no construction/traffic on that road. I've tried fastest and optimized and got the same results.

I'm using 5.00.50s60.9, and it is working perfectly.  As mentioned by some other before, you need to make sure you select the Assisted GPS in the positioning method settings.

Lock on is impressive about < 30 seconds.

I got mine working now. I had to sign the garmin.sis file first. My lock is less than 5 secs. Very impressive indeed. However there a display issues when in landscape mode.

The landscape map is sorted out in V5.00.60. I installed 5.00.50 & just updated to newest version, working 100% no more split screen. Lock on time in South Africa less than 5secs.

Very happy, got latest Garmap installed (931Mb).
