I am pretty satisfied with the device.  Nokia just has to subsidize app production, though, or the OS will die on the vine.  We have a lot of smart phones in my family, including the N-85, N-95, N-8, i-Phone 3GS and BlackBerry Torch.

I just bought my wife an N-8 for Christmas so I obviously like the phone. But I hope she won't be irritated while waiting for Symbian 3 specific apps for the N-8.  My daughter is the poster child for "there's an app for that" on her i-Phone. Nokia can't come close to competing in that arena.  Arguably, that is why the i-Phone is selling.  It is also arguable that if Nokia doesn't mind their p's and q's, they will go the way of Moxie!

Regards,

maybe more improvements in future would make it a better phone.

NO....

I'm not satisfied with the device (so far I'm the only one who selected "Not really".  Cheesy

I find it's too glitchy. Almost every day it freezes up on me to the point where I have to hold the power button down for like 10 seconds, reboot the phone & try again. The e-mail widget tells me (daily) that I have unread messages even when I KNOW I've read those messages (so I end up re-reading them and then marking them as "Read"). And despite manually marking them as "Read" they still somehow manage to re-appear as unread.   Angry

Those are my two biggest beefs with this phone, but not all of them.

Lastly, if you're a Canadian cellular user and happen to be on the Wind Mobile network, apparently Nokia entered in the MMS settings incorrectly so I can't utilize MMS features (I've posted about this problem in another area on this site).

Hopefully Nokia will come out with some software releases that will fix the bugginess of the phone. I can live without the MMS features, but....the constant freezing is a real pain in the as......you may know, it wasn't exactly a very "cheap" phone either.    Wink

I was gonna get the Xperia X10 as my last smartphone was a P1i until it got stolen and since then nothing really appealled to me.

Then along came Nokia N8, and wow! I was really impressed with online reviews and the hardware specs is great.. I love the camera and the video, but other than that the phone is extremely buggy, the UI is not as smooth as other devices and the widgets are not that great.. Also the great wait for updates (still waiting for pr1.1)

so no, i'm not really happy with it but it's going ok, not like i wanna trash the thing...

It's all about whether you can develope a relationship with a phone and I tried and failed with an Acer Ferrari Liquid E.  When I got the N8, I wasn't smitten straight away - it took a bit of navigating to work out how to personalise menu's etc like I knew I should be able to after having a 6680 but after about a week there was no going back.

The only thing I'm not so thrilled with is the camera.
I was spoilt with the 'lock and load' 6680 (all images on www.leftbank.co.nz andwww.thestreetsaid.com taken with it) so I find the N8 cumbersome and just don't use it as much as I would like to.

I'm also enjoying this forum and have found out even more tricks - so - thanks!

it sounds like the phone is not recognising that there is a sim card inserted. take it back to the retailer you got it from (or if they won't help then to your nearest network store) and they should be able to help you. if they are unable to get it to work and the phone is still covered under warranty they should be able to get it repaired free of charge for you (this may involve them sending your phone away for a few days, so see if they offer a courtesy phone service or borrow one from a friend in the meantime) hope this helps!

Its okay. I like it. User guide is awful. Battery life isnt too great. My biggest beef is I cant format an SD card in it and I find it quite slippery when using one handed. Camera is great. I dont have alot of time to sit and play and learn more about it, so out of 10 I would give it an 8
