dont get the connection notification pop-up window anymore

Hi Folks,
just inherited a N8 from my Dad a week ago. I luv it. ( had been the effective manager of the device since Nov 2010 and updated the software from time to time)

so, like a good citizen, i update the software ysrtdy.

but now i dont get that little pop-up window telling me which connection (wlan or 3G/gsm) N8 is using when i give an email sync command or open the browser.
I liked that little popup window, it was a good reminder....

Any way I can get it back?
