Question; Can I flash my phone with any navifirm rm 596 thing or only the one that matches my product code? Telenor NO version is slow on the updating process, and I really dont feel like waiting weeks for any fw updates that might come.

Any firmware will do...
Difference: Languages and FM transmitter (depending on local laws) and a few tweaks, nothing really important

Oh that sounds good. When 2.0 comes out, I will just have to reflash again, I assume. What happens if Im using pr 1.1 with a general euro fw and my product code gets the 1.1 release? Does the phone suggest an update or does it ignore it? Im asking because it seems like phoenix doesnt change the product code at all.

Thanks for a snappy reply, Toosloo, and the general assistance around the forum. I know more people than me love it yet doesnt write it all that often. Just thought Id mention that we do appreciate it, even in silence.

So basically: download navifirm+ 1.1, get any fw I want, launch phoenix, flash with the fw files navifirm provided, and presto: done? Or am I missing something to the equation?

Ive only done the nss route before, with my n97.

I've unbranded mine too, update showed up, so I don't know why yours should not show up...
Updates are just not availbale yet if your phone is not unbranded, some have it like orange in France, and probably big carriers in other countries..
Here the link to the tutorial.

The hacked uda does not work yet on the new firmware...
will see how to fix that tomorrow
Cheers

So, did You flash your N8? How did it go?

Toosloo replied that you can't change the product code, yet...
But I wish he could answer if it's possible (not too risky) to flash with files from different product number.Huh

So is it possible to flash my N8 with one from different product code (for language issues)?
Any risks?
Can I go back to the original software?

yes it is possible...
flashing always includes risks... (mostly for the ones who don't really know what they're doing, and exclusively for the one that believe that reading the step by step tutorial takes too much time...) , still I never heard of somebody killing his phone just by flashing it...

Yes you can alwas put back the original firmware on the n8

Toosloo, I would say: I'm happy and apparently maaaaany members are happy to have You active in this forum.

I switched from iPhone to N8. Appreciate your great work that I read twice already.
I'm working on flashing but was afraid if I can't undo, cause my Rogers Product files don't go well in Phoenix saying: the digital signature verification failed...
.............
Thanks a lot for the Super quick response
I will let you know after it's done, tonight  Smiley
