Hi, does anyone know if it is possible to set by default No Flash?
Most of the times you can get better pictures with no flash and I hate to go first to options and switch off the flash, mainly if you need to do a quick shot.

 Roll Eyes
yes, there is a way:
1. open cam
2. go to settings (the wrench on the right bottom corner)
3. go to "scene mode"
4. "user defined" ==>> Edit
5. select "Flash - Off"
6. select "Set as default scene mode - Yes"
7. "back" ==>> turn cam off, then turn it on again

enjoy Smiley
-hope it helps-

hello,

actually you can define that the M mode to be default.

It is worth considering adding to this setting, the compression tab, set to Hard, this way image is less compressed by phone algorithm, for my taste i would prefer to have more details on the picture ( picture size will be little bigger tough )

have a good day,

Some times obvious things are difficult to be found for dummies like me...
Thanks! Wink

the compression tab, set to Hard,
Hi radu,
I cannot find my ""compression tab" or my "Hard" setting. Do you mean:
Optoins/settings/Image Quality? or is there an actual compression option somewhere? Forgive my dumbness!

hello ascanio,

once you open settings for camera, on the bottom row, you have an icon for SHARPNESS, if you open it, will find a new menu with three settings, hard - normal - soft.
By default it comes to normal, but you can change it to "hard" ( actually means less compression, more details, larger picture ). the "soft" setting is opposite, having result in a lesser detail picture.
The thing is that camera is reset on every usage, to "all normal" settings, but, there is a trick here :
You can choose that camera to use allways the M scene mode ( user defined ), this one you can customise pretty well, including the setting for HARD compression for sharpness ( dumb expression, agree ), so that every time you start camera is not neccesary to adjust for shaprness manually.

Hope is clear now..

have a good day,
radu

Radu,

Very cool! I followed your advice. I never knew what that option was for. I actually thought that Hard would introduce some artificial sharpening which would have been a step AWAY from the most faithful and true reproduction. For example, on HT projectors, the "Cinema Soft" mode DOES in fact soften the image and the "Sharp" or "Presentation" mode DO increase ARTIFICIALLY the sharpness thus introducing artifacts. Very nice to learn otherwise for my N8 camera.

That you know of, is this valid with all phone cameras (Android too)?

One last question, but it's OT: any advice how to make my UI smoother and faster? To get closer to an Android or iPhone feel? I have downloaded a Mod from this forum which has many options and I'm waiting for my certificate to install it... I hope it will improve things...

and... do you know if you can really upscale the CPU's frequency?

Thanks!

hello again,

yes, there is similar setting to almoust all phones, you shoud look in camera setting for things like, sharpness / image quality / compression, or similar, many phones do have this feature, but not all.

"closer" is relative term... n8 can not compete to android or iphone in terms of eye-candy, although they become better now. U can look for different themes, and lastly for spb shell for symbian. There are pros and cons for each, like for example in spb you loose the ability to have rss reader widgets on the main screen, but have max 8 screens to work with...
In the end, i did not hear about CPUscaling in nokias, yet ?.... this is not _droid pool where you can mess-up everything in UI and swap kernel on morning comute just for the sick pleasure of having it restored to last known build.
like it or hate it, this is today's nokia world.

have a good day,
radu

Hello Radu,

i did not hear about CPUscaling in nokias, yet ?

Well, I just installed TooSloo Mod v5.0 (in this forum) and it DOES speed up the UI. Admitedly, it doesn't do a lot, but you CAN feel the difference... try out for yourself!
 Smiley

Again, in any case, thanks for the advice/help!

There is a big difference between Soft and Hard Sharpness. Thank you for the advice.

Yes......SPB Mobile Shell  Grin
It's much better than Nokia's default GUI, though admittedly it's still not iPhone candy

Here's the trial version - http://store.ovi.com/content/61716?clickSource=search

If you search for SPB there are already threads with a keygen or at least threads with a few keys to get the full version...
Trial... What is that?
If you can't find it... then you won't have it..
