Hi.
I`m going to buy N8 but I am not completely sure what are its playback capabilities. Some people say that it has some problems with 720p let alone 1080p. Is it true? Isn`t the playback on tvscreen smooth?

The resolution on HDMI output is very smooth to LCD TV. It does not matter on 720 or 1080i. I have tested on the ori movie in this set, 'TRON', beautiful but if downloded movie the resolution is very very bad.

I was in the same place you were mate, so today I took my USB stick to use on the N8 at a different store (I had issue with a previous store as they had no cables for for the demo hand set), I an had MP 4 hd music video download from youtube via firefox downloadhelper, an AVI file and an MKV file.  They all worked with no issue.  I was very surprised.  And here's the thing, on that size of screen on the phone the quality looks good.

Am saying from my quick use with the phone it was fine, when you play MKV which is 720p I think via the hdmi plug in, it will look good.
