Has anyone got the n8 working with ubuntu to sync music ? a bit like the N900 and other devices can use rhythmbox and other mtpfs apps?

update: ubuntu does support mtpfs and the n8 has been added to the latest libmtp library, but at least on my 10.10 64bit edition it's not working. It complains about something on the lines of 'not being able to lock the camera'...

update 2: rhythmbox working

thanks

Just curious,

Did you use WINE to run the OVI software, or did you just hook up the device directly to your PC without the software? I'm seriously considering switching back to Ubuntu, but don't because I have two pieces of hardware that require Windows, and one of them does NOT work with WINE (which totally sucks).

I've got a :

- TomTom GO GPS
- Nokia N8

*Deep Sigh* Can't wait for WINE to correct the GPS thing.   Angry

No, i didn't use ovi using wine at all. I just wanted to be able to transfer music/video via ubuntu. Anyway I have good news. I managed to get Rhythmbox to transfer music fine and the USB mass storage mode works fine.

For rhymbox i needed to create a 'hidden dot file' ( .is_audio_player ) in the root of the n8 drive. The contents of it would be something like

Code:
output_formats=video/x-msvideo, audio/mpeg, audio/mp4, video/mp4
audio_folders=Music/
folder_depth=2
coverartfilename=cover.jpg
coverartfiletype=jpeg
coverartsize=200
name=N8

The device does show up but the 'name' attribute is not picked up. The device shows up as something else. Anyway, music gets synced fine under the Music folder with Artist/Album hierarchy. Also embed picture art INTO the mp3 file and it will show up fine on the N8.

:-)

Can anybody help me? I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 and USB Mass Storage mode isn't working with my N8. I tried to use Nokuntu but the dependencies aren't suitable for my Ubuntu version. Does anyone know if earlier versions of Ubuntu can work with N8 USB Mass Storage? Thanks anyway.
