i know the nokia n8 has a HDMI out but i was wondering if you can connect it to an old tv with a red white yellow phono jack?

I read somewhere that ear jack works for av output.  Give it a go.

yea i had seen on e bay cables that say they will output video (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-GENUINE-NOKIA-CA-75U-TV-AV-OUT-CABLE-LEAD-N8-/260676614995?pt=UK_MobilePhones_MobilePhoneAccesories_MobilePhoneDataCables_JN&hash=item3cb1897b53)

but the end that goes into the n8 just looks like a head phone jack. i havent actually bought the phone yet so i cant really try it. its either this or the galaxy s. it really does depend on this function.

has anyone done it succesfully with the N8?

Yes I believe it would. You need an AV cable with 3.5 mm jack on one end and a component output on the other. The Nokia N900 worked that way and I'm quite sure the N900 support this too, although the quality won't be as good as HDMI, naturally.

Even if it's a late reply, yes it does work with the tv-out cable from older devices, or similar, and works quite well. All you need is to set up default accessories to tv-out instead of headphones and there you are. Good luck.

Hi,
i tried to use my old 80gig ipod's av cable with my new n8 but it didn't work...Sad
well i also tried it to use it with my ipod and it works like ! awesome !
i dont understand why doesnt it work with this phone...
actually i dont really need this to work coz im happy with my HDMI output....but was just wondering why it worked for few ppl but didnt for me....

The entertainment system in our Dodge Journey only has the RCA type video and audio inputs.. Would be nice to throw a couple of movies on the N8 while driving long trips. I suppose you can't find HDMI to RCA 2 plug adapters anymore.

I also have a N8 phone and I also had the same question, I didn't knew it was possible to use it with RCA cables, but I read somewhere that using the original NOKIA AV cables from a 5800 or n95 works with the nokia n8 AND IT DID!!!

the image is 1000 times better with HDMI than with RCA but it's an alternative for tvs without HDMI. I tried other 3.5mm to RCA cables but the conventional cables didn't worked... I tried one that bought on radioshack and another cable from a portable DVD and none of them worked, just the original cable from my old n95

I hope it works!!!
