For anyone who read any of my previous posts regarding the restarting & subsequent death of my N8 after only 48hrs, here is an update. I have now had my replacement handset for 6 days, no restarting problems occasional slight hanging but nothing too bad. Generally I'm now pretty happy, the UI is a bit behind some of it's competitors but I'm hoping that will be sorted with updates!? (hope your listening Nokia). I must say that the hardware is almost beyond reproach, it is very well constructed, would have been nice to have a lens cover & I'm not sure how long the Nokia N Series graphic will last but other than I love the construction. It feels engineered & is sooo much better than the some of the plastic crap that's out there. As I think it is generally agreed the Nokia Browser is really not too clever, it works but it could/should be much so better, I think I'm correct in thinking this will be getting updated quite soon? Everything I've thrown at it so far task wise it has managed without any problem, I've downloaded a couple of apps & they seem to work fine & have not caused any problems. It does seem there were a considerable number of faulty units within the initial batch, but I'm pleased to say so far so good with this replacement. If Nokia can improve on the general user experience with updates (in a reasonable time frame) I think this will be a classic phone, if the updates are slow coming I think it will tarnish the reputation of the handset & potential customers will be lost either in anticipation of the N9 or to alternative brands.

Had an email to say my replacement is on it's way.  Hopefully the dim quality of my camera was because of a faulty batch and I don't get one the same!!!  Undecided

With the first delivery though, I did feel the build quality was good, kept getting out of my pocket just to look at.  Also agree that it could have done with a lens cover as my last phone was a Satio and it had one.  But the phone felt sleek and the aluminium shell is a nice touch.

As the Satio was my first smart phone (which had the last incarnation of Symbian) I haven't tried any other operating systems to compare but the OS on this seems smooth and does the job.  The facebook widget (to me anyway) is pretty cool to show statuses on the homescreen and the browser access the web.  Slow?  Not sure but works.  I don't do all that much web surfing on my phone.  Who sang that song for this band?  Google and it works! lol  Also downloaded quite a few apps and they all worked.

Media player works fine and sounds good with the earpieces that came with the phone.

Got it for phone use (was clear and worked), music (was happy), camera (was disappointed so returned for an exchange, also HDMI didn't work) and to be, what word shall I use? trendy? No! Stylish? No! erm different? erm yes I suppose (the reason I didn't jump on the iPhone and Android Phone bandwagons) but no so different as to stick my sim in a 15 year old brick with an arial the size of my little finger.

Hope it is good when I get mine back and hope your experience is good and this one you have doesn't die too!  Wink

Well No.  Got my replacement today and the camera is exactly the same.  I give up.  £429 and the selling feature for me is a big pile of tripe!!!
