Just thought everyone might appreciate that there is some very cool software being developed for the N8.

Check it out

Actually there is the 3.7 version of the SPB shell out already, and I also have it on my phone. I think it's a very cool UI and I recommend you to give it try while waiting for the 5.0 version to release. The software costs 30€, but there's a 15-day trial available at the Ovi Store.

Thirty bucks! My god! It's only a launcher, a nice one, but just a launcher! Grid is free and you can creat 162 shortcuts on 9 panels. How many shortcuts can you create on SPB shell?
This is a serious problem with Symbian, the apps are a lot more expensive than in other Operating Softwares probably because there is few competitors. I remember paying $25 for Projekt. It is very expensive, but this is the only outliner available. This needs to change. $30 for a launcher or $25 for an outliner without desktop, this is not acceptable.

Actually, it's worse!  It's 30 euros which is more than $40 last time I checked!

People should not buy so expensive softwares, so the author will understand and reduce the price, but I am dreaming. I think the only way to fix this problem is to attract more developpers and to create more competition between them.

Yeah I have only the trial version of the software, it's cool and all but I wouldn't pay 30€ for it. I'd say like 5 € would be reasonable. So after the 15-day trial runs out I'll probably just use grid. But the SPB shell is actually almost a full UI (it replaces the original home screen, task manager, etc), not just a place for shortcuts like grid.

I have the trail version as well. I really like it, but i am struggling on whether to pay for the full version when my trial expires. I will try grid before parting with my money
On the cost of apps - there was a study showing that the average price of a paid ovi apps are is lower than  iphone, windows mobile and blackberry - http://www.symbian-guru.com/welcome/2010/02/distimo-shows-ovi-store-apps-are-cheaper-than-iphone-apps.html (slide 13 has the comparison). This has to be taken in context though with a lot less apps in total on ovi, and a lot less free apps on ovi.
