GREAT NEWS - ALL NOKIA OWNERS WHO USE MAPS MUST READ !!
Sharing favorites was allways the best feature of Google Maps - on my N95 I could search with Google Maps (v3.2.1) save "favorite" then open with Nokia Maps (v2.0) and navigate - both apps shared favorites database - this was great because you had the power of googles massive search engine then nokia voice guided navigation offline. I kept the same install on my N85 and N86.
A few years have passed and I just got my shiny new N8. I downloaded Google Maps latest v4.1.1 - now locations are saved as "stars" not "favorites" and cannot be opened in nokia / ovi maps - WHAT A DISSAPOINTMENT!! although Ovi Maps search is a huge improvement over the older versions is still doesn't match up to googles massive database - I wondered if the previous version of google maps v3.2.1 would work - luckily I still had the sisx file on my pc so I copied it over to the phone and installed.
UPDATE - GREAT NEWS !! Google Maps v3.2.1 works perfectly on Nokia N8 and still shares "favorites" with Ovi Maps v4.06 so you continue to get the best of both worlds - Googles massive search engine, satellite view, street view and then Nokias great free turn by turn navigation.
